Todos somos Importantes para Dios | Día 18

No es que importe, pero en mi humilde opinión el mundo nunca ha visto un hombre más grande que Jesús. Cuando vivía entre nosotros, a las personas que no tenían nada en común con Jesús les fascinaba estar con Él. Me pregunto porqué no es así hoy, porqué a las personas que no tienen nada en común con los cristianos no les encanta estar alrededor de nosotros los cristianos.

Jesús era como ningún otro líder religioso, antes de Él se creía que a Dios o a los dioses no les importaba la gente. En la antigüedad, la creencia era que las personas solo tenían un valor atribuido. Si naciste en la familia correcta o si tenías el título o la posición correcta, entonces tenías algún valor. Pero llegó Jesús y puso al revés ese sistema de creencias y enseñó que todas las personas tenían un valor inherente, que desde la perspectiva de Jesús todas las personas eran importantes para Dios. El apóstol Juan citando a Jesús escribió estas famosas palabras: “Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo que dio a su único Hijo...” No solo para un grupo selecto de personas sino para todo el mundo.

Cuando Jesús entró al mundo, la práctica era amar a un grupo de personas y odiar a otro. La mayoría de las guerras eran el resultado de un grupo de personas que odiaban a otro grupo de personas, después de todo, creían que a los dioses e incluso a Dios realmente no les importaba la gente. Creían que al odiar a las personas, en realidad estaban complaciendo a los dioses. Pero nuevamente, cuando Jesús apareció le dio un cambio radical a ese sistema de creencias. En el Sermón del Monte Jesús sorprendió a todos cuando dijo:

LECTURA BIBLICA:

"Ustedes han oído que se dijo: “Ama a tu prójimo y odia a tu enemigo”. pero yo les digo: Amen a sus enemigos y oren por quienes los persiguen..." - Jesús (Mateo 5:43 NVI).

¿Quién haría eso? Incluso la mayoría de nosotros los cristianos no haríamos eso hoy. Sí, oraríamos por nuestros enemigos y aquellos que nos persiguen, pero la mayoría oraríamos para que Dios los destruyera. Pero Jesús viene y enseña, cuando pienses en ese miembro de la familia, vecino o persona en el trabajo que te está persiguiendo, la persona que te robó, mintió acerca de ti y quien arruinó tu reputación, quiero que ores por ella porque esa persona es importante para Dios. Cuando pienses en tus enemigos, las personas que te hacen la guerra, los que te están demandando o que los que llaman a tu lugar de trabajo para que te despidan, quiero que ores por ellos porque ellos son tan importantes para Dios como lo eres tú. Orar de esta manera requiere humildad, requiere que veas a las personas no a través de tu lente personal sino a través del lente de Dios.

PIÉNSALO:

A Dios le importan todas las personas, aunque no a todas las personas les importe Dios. Tú eres importante para Dios, yo soy importante para Dios y las personas que nos persiguen e incluso nuestros enemigos también son importantes para Dios.

ORA:

Padre celestial gracias porque soy importante para ti, gracias por amarme tanto que enviaste a tu único Hijo a morir por mí, te pido que me ayudes a amar a mis enemigos, a orar por ellos sin importar lo que me hayan hecho, porque para ti son tan importantes como lo soy yo. Gracias por ese ejemplo que me dejaste como guía para mi vida amado Jesús.

Everyone Matters to God | Day 18

Not that it matters but in my humble opinion the world has never seen a greater man than Jesus. When he lived among us people who had nothing in common with him loved to be with him. I wonder why the same isn’t true today. Why is it that people who have nothing in common with Christians don’t love being around us Christians? 

Jesus was like no other religious leader; previous to him people believed that God or the gods did not care about them. In ancient times the belief was that people only had ascribed value. If you were born into the right family or if you had the right title or position then you were of value. But Jesus turned the entire world belief system upside down by teaching that people had inherent value; that from God’s perspective every single person matters to Him. The Apostle John quoting Jesus wrote the most famous words in the Bible: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son…” Not just for a select group of people but rather for the entire world. 

When Jesus entered the world, it was the practice to love one group of people and hate another. Most wars were waged based upon the hatred of a people; after all, they believed that the gods and even God didn’t really care about people. They believed that by hating people they were actually pleasing the gods. But again, when Jesus showed up it was a radical departure from that belief system. In the Sermon on the Mount, the first and most complete message, Jesus shocked everyone when he said: 

BIBLICAL READING: 

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…” – Jesus (Matthew 5:43 NIV)

Who would do that? Even most of us Christians would not do that today. Yes, we would pray for our enemies and those who persecute us, but most would pray that God would destroy them. But Jesus came along and taught, that when you think about that family member, neighbor, or person at work that is persecuting you, the person who stole from you, lied about you and ruined your reputation, I want you to pray for them because that person matters to God. When you think about your enemies, the people coming against you, those who are suing you or who call your place of employment to get you fired, I want you to pray for them because they matter to God just as much as you matter to God. Praying this way requires humility; it will require that you see people not through your personal lens but through God’s lens. 

THINK ABOUT IT:

Everybody matters to God even when God does not matter to them. You matter to God, I matter to God, and the people who persecute us, and even our enemies matter to God. 

PRAY:

Dear Heavenly Father, I need to ask your forgiveness today. It has not always been easy for me to pray for my enemies. You have forgiven me so much, you do not remember my faults, and you wash my slate clean time and time again. I know that everyone matters to you. Today I humble myself before your throne and ask that you work in my heart so that I can forgive those who have wronged me. I want to have an outlook like Jesus, I want to love the way you love and see everyone for who they are, a valuable soul to you. Today I commit to forgiving and to praying for everyone, for those who need prayer, those who have done good things for me, and for those who have wronged me because they are all valuable in your sight. Thank you Father for your word and for working in my heart. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord and Savior, amen. 

Oración Contestada | Día 17

Todos oran, incluso los ateos oran. Algunos le oran a la naturaleza; al sol, la luna o las estrellas. Algunas oraciones son en forma de un deseo, ya sea cuando una persona enciende una vela, la sopla o cuando arroja una moneda en el pozo de los deseos. Algunos les oran a los santos y otros llaman a los muertos. Y, como dije anteriormente, aun los ateos oran, especialmente cuando las cosas les van mal y esperan o desean que algo o alguien intervenga a su favor. Pero en los Estados Unidos la mayoría de nosotros le oramos a nuestro Padre Celestial. El problema es que, si somos honestos, la mayor parte de nuestras oraciones parecen no tener respuesta o, no estamos seguros de si Dios realmente les ha dado alguna consideración seria. La buena noticia es que Dios escucha cada una de nuestras oraciones, ya sean grandes o pequeñas. La mala noticia es que la mayoría de las veces la razón por la que no recibimos una respuesta favorable a nuestras oraciones es porque lo que nos motiva a la oración no son los propósitos de Dios para nuestras vidas.

LECTURA BIBLICA:

Piden y no reciben, porque piden con malos propósitos para gastarlo en sus placeres. - Santiago 4: 3 NIV.

¿Esto significa que a Dios no le agrada el placer? Absolutamente no, fue Dios quien creó el placer. El problema es que nuestras oraciones no deberían tener una motivación o un propósito mas grande que yo. Digamos que le estás pidiendo a Dios que te sane, no hay absolutamente nada de malo con eso. Pero, La pregunta es, ¿cuál es tu propósito, ósea para qué quieres que Dios te sane? Hace unos años, un amigo de la familia que queremos mucho cayo enfermo. Todos sus órganos comenzaron a fallarle así que comenzó a pedirle a Dios que lo sanara. Las semanas se convertían en meses y solo empeoraba. Oraba por teléfono con mis padres, tenía varios grupos de oración intercediendo a su favor y se unía a nosotros a través de las redes sociales en nuestro servicio de oración de los viernes por la noche, pero su condición iba de mal en peor. Después de pasar por una cirugía tras otra, su condición realmente no mejoró, y en su última cirugía quedó con una hemorragia interna. Sus médicos decidieron que no sobreviviría a una segunda cirugía, por lo que intentaron detener la hemorragia con plasma. Además de la hemorragia sufría de un dolor insoportable y entendía que las cosas lucían muy mal para él. Esa noche oró completamente diferente a todas las veces anteriores, esa noche dijo: Señor, no me quiero morir. Si me sanas, pasaré el resto de mi vida centrado en los demás, les contaré de tu grandeza y de cómo me sanaste. Esa misma noche, mientras su esposa dormía en un sofá junto a él, Dios entró a su habitación, tuvo una conversación con él, le tocó el costado e inmediatamente fue sanado y aliviado de todo dolor. ¿Cuál fue la diferencia? ¿Un cambio de el propósito de si mismo a otros? Esta vez oró para que Dios lo sanara para poder bendecir a otros.

PIÉNSALO:

Dios nos ha llamado a tener la misma actitud que tuvo Jesús, quien voluntariamente se humilló para servir a los demás. Si alguna vez hubo un área en la que esta actitud ha debido reflejarse es en la forma en que oramos. Deberíamos mirar las cosas buenas de nuestras vidas y las cosas no tan buenas y orar, Dios, si puedes utilizar mi situación, las cosas buenas y malas en mi vida para bendecir a otros, aquí estoy. Y esa es una oración que estoy seguro de que Dios responderá.

ORA:

Esa es mi oración Padre celestial, te pido que uses cada situación de mi vida, todo lo que me pasa, sea bueno o sea malo para bendecir a otros. Por favor ayúdame a estar dispuesto a usar mis talentos, mis recursos, mis habilidades y mi tiempo para beneficiar a los demás, enséñame a vivir de esa manera Señor, de la manera que Tú viviste cuando estuviste en medio nuestro. 

The Answered Prayer | Day 17

Everyone prays, even atheists pray. Some pray to nature, to the sun, the moon or the stars. Some prayers are in the form of a wish, whether it be when a person lights a candle, blows out a candle, or when they cast a coin into a wishing well. Some pray to saints and others call out the dead. And, as I previously stated even atheists pray, especially when things go wrong and they hope or wish that something or someone would intervene on their behalf. But for the most part in America, we pray to our Heavenly Father. The problem is that if we’re honest, mostly our prayers seem to go unanswered or worse, we’re not even sure if God has really given them any serious consideration. The good news is that God listens to every single prayer big or small. The bad news is that most times the reason we don’t receive a favorable answer to our prayers is because our motives are wrong.  

BIBLE READING: 

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. – James 4:3 NIV

Does this mean that God is anti-pleasure? Absolutely not, it was God who created pleasure in the first place. The problem is motivation; our prayers should have a greater purpose than personal pleasure. Let’s say that you’re praying for God to heal you, there’s nothing wrong with that. The question is, what is your motivation, why do you want God to heal you? A few years ago, a good friend of the family became very ill, all of his body organs were shutting down so he began to ask God to heal him. Weeks turned into months and he would only get worse. He would pray with my parents over the phone, he had multiple prayer groups interceding on his behalf, and he would join us on social media for our Friday night prayer service, but he continued to get worse. After going through surgery his condition really did not improve. Following what I believe was his last surgery he began hemorrhaging internally. His doctors decided that he would not survive a second surgery so they tried using plasma to make the bleeding stop. He was in excruciating pain and understood that it did not look good for him. That night he prayed completely different from any time before, that night he said, Lord, I don’t want to die. If you heal me I will spend the rest of my life focused on others. I will tell them how you healed me and I will tell them of your greatness. That same night as his wife slept on a sofa beside him, God entered his room, had a conversation with him, touched his side and he was immediately healed and relieved of all pain. What was the difference? A change from me motivated to others motivated. He prayed that God would heal him so that he could bless others. 

THINK ABOUT IT: 

God has called us to have the same attitude that Jesus had, who voluntarily humbled himself to serve others. If there were ever an area in which this attitude should be reflected it’s in the way we pray. We should look at the good things in our lives and the not so good things and pray, God if you can use the good and bad things in my life to bless others then here I am. And, that is a prayer that I’m sure God will answer. 

PRAY

Heavenly Father, here I am, with all that I have and all that I am, I come before you. I want to put my life at your disposal, to be used for your glory and to be used as an instrument of blessing to others. I am blessed, I have health, I have so many good things and it all comes from you. I have also struggled, suffered, and have been afraid on occasion but through it all, I have learned to put my hope and trust in you. So today I ask that all my experiences, all my struggles as well as all my blessings, all the good things, as well as the bad things, be used to minister hope to those in need. Help me to change my motivations and my prayers from me to them. Thank you, Father, for hearing my prayer and I ask all this in the name of your precious son Jesus, amen.

Las acciones son mas fuertes que las palabras | Día 16

Si realmente quieres saber cómo es una persona, escucha sus palabras y luego observa sus acciones. Cuando Jesús habitó entre nosotros, alegó poder responder a la pregunta que ningún otro hombre había podido contestar. Afirmó saber cómo es Dios; Él afirmó saber lo que Dios piensa de nosotros. Lo asombroso es que no alegó tener la explicación más precisa de Dios, afirmó ser la explicación de Dios.

LECTURA BIBLICA:

" —Señor —dijo Felipe—, muéstranos al Padre y con eso nos basta.

—¡Pero, Felipe! ¿Tanto tiempo llevo ya entre ustedes, y todavía no me conoces? El que me ha visto a mí ha visto al Padre.  - Juan 14: 8-9 NIV.

Si quieres saber cómo es Dios, escucha las palabras de Jesús, pero, lo que es más importante, mira sus acciones. En el primer siglo, las personas enfermas eran consideradas malditas por Dios, a menudo eran expulsadas y nadie se atrevía a tocarlas, a menos que también se enfermaran. Pero Jesús tocaba a todo tipo de personas enfermas y en lugar de enfermarse, las personas que lo tocaba quedaban sanadas. Mientras el pueblo de Israel vivía bajo la ocupación y la opresión del imperio romano, un día un centurión romano comandante de cien soldados le pidió a Jesús que lo ayudase porque su criado estaba enfermo y Jesús le concedió al centurión la solicitud y el hombre fue sanado ese mismo día. También está la interacción que Jesús tuvo con Mateo, el recaudador de impuestos, un hombre considerado como un traidor con su propio pueblo y una vergüenza para su patria. Un día Jesús se le acerca mientras le estaba recaudando impuestos abusivos a su propio pueblo y le dice: “sígueme”. Y lo siguiente que sabemos es que Jesús está en la casa de Mateo cenando con un grupo de recaudadores de impuestos y con personas a las que se les llamaban pecadores. Si quieres saber cómo es Dios, solo escucha las palabras de Jesús, pero más importante, mira sus acciones.

PIÉNSALO:

Si quieres saber lo que Dios piensa acerca de las personas y acerca de ti, solo escucha lo que Jesús dijo: “Porque Dios amó tanto al mundo que dio a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo el que cree en Él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna”. Luego, mira lo que hizo, hizo todo lo posible para servir a todas las personas, porque todas son extremadamente importantes para Dios.

Que bueno es saber que me amas y que soy extremadamente importante para ti mi Dios, las palabras y acciones de Jesús me lo demuestran una y otra vez; te pido que me ayudes a amar a mi prójimo como a mi mismo, sirviéndole de la misma manera que Tú viniste a servirnos a nosotros, con amor, compasión y humildad.

Actions Speak Loudly | Day 16

If you truly want to know what a person is like listen to their words and then watch their actions. When Jesus dwelt among us, he alleged that he could answer the question that no other man had been able to answer with precision. He claimed to know what God was like and he claimed to know how God thinks about us. What’s astounding is that he did not allege to have the most accurate explanation of God; he claimed to be the explanation of God. If you want to know what God is like, then listen to Jesus’ words, but more importantly, look at his actions. 

BIBLE READING: 

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. – John 14:8-9 NIV

In the 1st century sick people were regarded as cursed by God. They were often cast out and no one dared to touch them for fear of becoming sick and cursed by God too. But Jesus touched all sorts of sick people. And, instead of becoming sick, the people he touched were healed. One day, when the people of Israel were living under Roman occupation and oppression, a centurion and commander of one hundred Roman soldiers asked Jesus for help because his servant was ill. Jesus granted the centurion the request and the man was healed that same day. Then there was Jesus’ interaction with Matthew the tax collector. Matthew was regarded as a traitor to his own people and an embarrassment to his country. Jesus walked up to him as he was collecting abusive taxes and said: “follow me”. The next thing we know is that Jesus is at Matthew’s house having dinner with him, many other tax collectors, and people who were regarded as sinners. If you want to know what God is like, just listen to Jesus’ words, but more importantly look at his actions.

THINK ABOUT IT: 

If you want to know how God thinks about all people just listen to what Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Then look at what he did, he went out of his way to serve everyone, because everyone is extremely important to God.

Pray

Dear God, thank you for your word. With each passing week, I am growing more in the knowledge of Jesus. I am learning to value the things that you value. I am learning to love and to serve others as Jesus did. The love and the example of Jesus is so awesome, so clear, and so amazing, that it has caused me to search you more and to continue growing in love. Dear God, I pray that my words and my actions match up. I pray that when people see what I do, it would be the same as what I say, but more importantly, that it would reflect the character and person of Jesus. Just as Jesus was a living explanation of what God is like, I pray that my actions would be a living explanation as to who Jesus is and how much he loves us, so much so that he gave up his life for us. In his precious name I pray, amen.

Humilde pero Todo Amor | Día 15

Frases como "Dios es amor", "Todos son importantes para Dios" y "Dios nos ama a todos por igual" son pensamientos exclusivos del cristianismo que nos hablan del carácter de Dios. Antes de Jesús, todos asumían que las personas tenían o recibían lo que se merecían, por lo tanto, eso implicaba que Dios favorecía a los ricos y poderosos y estaba en contra de los enfermos, los pobres y los indigentes. Pero contrario a esa creencia, todos eran valiosos para Jesús por lo tanto también lo son para Dios.

Jesús enseñó en la parábola de la moneda perdida y la oveja perdida, que Dios va buscando a las personas, pero no para castigarlas sino para rescatarlas. Jesús enseñó en la parábola del hijo pródigo que Dios es como un padre que espera con los brazos abiertos para recibir a los que se marcharon y arruinaron sus vidas. En una ocasión, Jesús le mostró a sus discípulos a una mujer viuda y pobre que estaba depositando su ofrenda en la tesorería, una ofrenda que si la estimamos hoy en día tendría u valor de menos de un centavo, y les dijo: “Les aseguro que esta viuda ha ofrendado más que todos los demás”. Nuevamente, en el primer siglo nadie más hubiera pensado que Dios valoraba a los perdidos, a los rebeldes o a las personas pobres. Y como si esto no fuera suficiente, en el sermón del monte Jesús nos enseñó que deberíamos orar aun por el bien de nuestros enemigos. Esto era un punto de vista completamente nuevo en cuanto a la manera en que las personas percibían a Dios.

LECTURA BIBLICA:

“Este mandamiento nuevo les doy: que se amen los unos a los otros. Así como yo los he amado, también ustedes deben amarse los unos a los otros. De este modo todos sabrán que son mis discípulos, si se aman los unos a los otros. "- Juan 13: 34-35 NIV.

PIÉNSALO:

En verdad Jesús les estaba dando a sus discípulos un nuevo mandato. Este no era el mandamiento de amar a quienes te amaban, era un nuevo mandato de amar y servir a los demás de la misma manera en que Dios a través de Jesús nos ha amado y servido a todos. Este es el amor más humilde y, sin embargo, el más grande de todos.

ORA:

Padre celestial gracias por amarme tanto, gracias por tu precioso Hijo Jesucristo que fue capaz de venir a este mundo a sufrir y morir por mí; sólo a través de Él tengo vida eterna y he conocido el verdadero amor, ese gran amor que ahora yo estoy dispuesto a dar a mi prójimo, porque por gracia doy lo que por gracia he recibido de ti; te alabo y te bendigo y hoy y siempre mi amado Dios.

Humble but Great Love | Day 15

Phrases like “God is love”, “Everyone matters to God” and “God loves all the children of the world” are uniquely Christian thoughts that speak about the character of God, hence the phrases. Prior to Jesus everyone assumed that people got what they deserved, therefore that implied that God favored the wealthy and powerful and was against the sick, the poor, and the destitute. But contrary to that belief we now know that everyone is valuable to God.

Jesus taught in the Parable of the Lost Coin and The Lost Sheep, that God is chasing after people but not to punish them but rather to win them back. Jesus taught in The Parable of the Prodigal Son that He waits with wide-open arms to receive all of those who have walked away and ruined their lives. On one occasion Jesus pointed out to his disciples a poor widow who was putting her gift into the treasury, a gift that in today’s estimate would be valued at less than a penny, and said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all…” Again, in the first century no one else would have thought that God valued the lost, the rebellious, or the poor. And if that were not enough, in The Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught that even our enemies are valuable to God, and he instructed us to pray for them. This was a brand-new approach to the way people perceived God. 

BIBLICAL READING:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:34-35 NIV

THINK ABOUT IT:

The truth is that Jesus was giving his disciples a new command. This was not the command to love those who loved you, this was new command to love and serve others the way that God through Jesus has loved and served all of us. This is the humblest and yet the greatest love. 

PRAY:

Dear God, I cannot thank you enough for your awesome love. How can I begin to thank you for Jesus, who served and loved so much that he took my place on the cross, a punishment that I deserved? Father, I know you value all of us regardless of our condition, thank you for pursuing me, for loving me before I even loved you back. As I continue praying and seeking, I ask that you continue to help me grow in love, humility, and in service to you and my neighbor. I confess that loving my enemies is not an easy thing to do, but because you ask, I will pursue growing in this area. How can I not forgive if you have forgiven me and how can I not love when you have loved me? God I purpose in my heart today to love and serve with humility because above all, I want to please you and do your will. Thank you for your unending love, your patience with me, your grace, and for Jesus. Amen

Dos Explicado | Día 14

Desde el principio del tiempo la gente se ha preguntado cómo es Dios, es decir, hasta el primer siglo cuando Jesús moró entre nosotros. Lo interesante es que Jesús no afirmó que vino a explicarnos  como es Dios, sino más bien dijo que Él era la definición de cómo es Dios en carne y hueso. En una ocasión unos hombres que dudaban de Él le dijeron, muéstranos al Padre para que podamos creer. Y Jesús les respondió, si me has visto a mí has visto al Padre. Jesús no habitó entre nosotros para explicar a Dios, sino para más bien para demostrar cómo es Dios.

Antes de Jesús, el mundo tenía una perspectiva completamente diferente de Dios. Por ejemplo, en el primer siglo la esclavitud era normal, tanto así que el imperio romano tenía más esclavos que ciudadanos. En el primer siglo la gente tenía un valor económico, pero si en cualquier momento eras derrotado militarmente por otra nación lo más probable era que terminabas siendo esclavo de esa nación. La creencia era que Dios favorecía a los hombres ricos; si eras esclavo, pobre o estabas enfermo, eso era una señal de que Dios estaba en tu contra. Luego vino Jesús y les asignó un gran valor y dignidad a todos, a pesar de su condición social, económica y física. Expresó que el hecho de servir voluntariamente a los demás no es un signo de debilidad y que la humildad no es una actitud que deberíamos evitar, sino más bien adoptar.

En una ocasión puso por encima de un sacerdote judío a un hombre de samaritano y redefinió quién y qué es nuestro prójimo. Ten en cuenta que los samaritanos eran mestizos y odiados por los judíos. Sin embargo, Jesús elevó al hombre samaritano no en base a su nacionalidad, algo sobre lo que ningún hombre tiene control. Lo elevó en base a la compasión que le brindó a un extraño que había sido ignorado por todas las demás personas. Jesús no se detuvo a explicarnos cómo es Dios, sino a demostrarnos cómo es Dios.

El apóstol Juan, quien comenzó a seguir a Jesús de adolescente, ya anciano recordando el tiempo que había pasado con Él y escribió:

LECTURA BIBLICA:

A Dios nadie lo vio jamás; quien lo ha dado a conocer es el Hijo unigénito, que está en el seno del Padre. - Juan 1:18 NVI.

PIÉNSALO:

El apóstol Pablo, quien en un tiempo persiguió y aprobó la sentencia de muerte del primer mártir de la iglesia cristiana, después de encontrarse con Jesús escribió: “La actitud de ustedes debe ser como la de Cristo Jesús, quien, siendo por naturaleza Dios, no consideró el ser igual a Dios como algo a qué aferrarse. Por el contrario, se rebajó voluntariamente, tomando la naturaleza de siervo..."

ORA:

Padre celestial gracias por darte a conocer a mi vida a través de tu precioso Hijo Jesucristo, Él es el que me demuestra como eres Tú, un Dios humilde, misericordioso, amoroso y compasivo con nosotros. Te pido que me ayudes a tener esa misma actitud con mi prójimo amado Dios, que al igual que el buen samaritano yo pueda expresar compasión por los demás.

God Explained | Day 14

Since the beginning of time people have wondered what God is like; that was until the first century when Jesus made his dwelling among us. The interesting thing is that Jesus did not claim to have come to earth to explain God to us; he claimed to be in flesh and blood the explanation of what God is like. One day some people who doubted Jesus asked him; show us the Father so that we can believe. Jesus answered; if you’ve seen me you have seen the Father. Jesus did not dwell among us to explain God, but rather to demonstrate what God is like. 

Before Jesus the world had a completely different view of God. For example, in the first century slavery was assumed, that’s why the Roman Empire had more slaves than they had citizens. In the first century people had economic value but if at any time a nation was militarily defeated by another nation, more than likely those people would end up becoming slaves to that nation. The belief was that God primarily favored wealthy men but if you were a slave, poor, or sick that was a sign that God was against you. If you were in power that meant that God was with you. Then Jesus came along and assigned great value and dignity to everyone in spite of their social, economic, or physical condition. He showed that voluntarily serving others was not a sign of weakness, and that humility was not an attitude that we should avoid but rather embrace. 

On one occasion Jesus elevated a Samaritan man over a Jewish priest, and in doing so he redefined what constitutes a neighbor. Keep in mind that Samaritans were half-breeds who were hated by the Jews. Yet he elevated the Samaritan man not based on his nationality, which is something no person has control over. He elevated him based on the compassion he showed to a stranger that had been ignored by everyone else including a priest. 

The Apostle John who in his teens began following Jesus, now an old man, looks back to the time he had spent with him and writes:

THINK ABOUT IT:

The Apostle Paul who initially persecuted and approved the death sentence of the first martyr of the Christian church, after encountering Jesus wrote: “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:  Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant …” 

PRAY:

Dear Heavenly Father, I have position, power, and possessions and all of this I consider a blessing from you, thank you. I know however, that it is of no eternal value for me to consume all that I have on myself, on things that will eventually pass away. I know that the things that you value are eternal in nature. Please work in me and in my heart so that I can have the same attitude as Christ Jesus. Help me to not use what I have for personal gain but rather to serve my neighbor. What an awesome example of humility and service we have in Jesus, help me to become more like him every day and to value those things that you value. Here I am Lord, use me for your glory and for your honor. I pray that you bless the works of my hand and that those works would directly impact the kingdom of heaven. Father I give you all the glory and honor and ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.

Do for One | Day 13

It’s one of the most intense and drama filed chapters in the life of Jesus. He’s no longer a child; he’s matured into the complete knowledge of his divinity. It’s only hours before they would come to arrest, sentence and crucify him. And, Jesus knowing that his time had come, but also knowing that he had complete power and authority, decided it was time to officially address his disciples for the last time. He wanted to leave them the bottom line, the most important lesson to live by. In this moment Jesus could have chosen to do anything, but what he decided to do, what he chose as the most important lesson was once again to humble himself.  

In the Apostle John’s description of that day, he writes about how Jesus took off his mantle, picked up a towel, poured water into a basin, and began washing the feet of his disciples. He did this fully aware that they would all abandon him at the most difficult time in his life. Knowing that Peter would deny him and that Judas would betray him. Jesus in that moment stepped down from being the most important and powerful person in the room to the lowest position, that of a servant.  

Once Jesus had finished washing the feet of the twelve disciples, he stood up, put down the towels, put on his mantle and then he asked the disciples the following question:

“Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. – John 13: 11-17

Think About it: 

The pathway to living a fully blessed life is to voluntarily serve one another. Some people are called to lead and participate in big ministries that feed the poor or that heal the sick; that’s an amazing calling. But not everyone has that calling. All of us however, who proclaim to be followers of Jesus have been called to serve one another. Now, imagine not only fulfilling your duties and responsibilities at work or at home, imagine also looking for opportunities to serve somebody at home, work, school, in the neighborhood, and at your local church. The interesting thing is that Jesus says that it’s the person who serves who will be blessed and not the one who is being served. So why not start today to serve “one another”.

PRAY:

Dear God, thank you for sending us Jesus to die for our sins. Thank you Jesus for setting that living example of humility and service for us to follow. If you being God, Lord, divine and all powerful can humble yourself and serve your creation, how can I say no to this calling? I want to live a blessed life, I want you to approve of my life here on earth, and therefore I choose to serve my brothers and sister. Help me to emulate you, help me to grow more and more into the person you would have me be. Whatever calling you have on my life, may I fulfill that mission with humility and a heart of service towards others. Put in me a new heart so that I can love and serve as you did. Thank you Jesus, amen.

Hazlo Por Uno | Día 13

Hoy vamos a ver uno de los capítulos más intensos y dramáticos de la vida de Jesús. Jesús ya no es un niño, ha madurado en el conocimiento completo de su Divinidad. Solo faltaban unas cuantas horas para que viniesen a arrestarlo, sentenciarlo y crucificarlo. Y Jesús, sabiendo que su hora había llegado, pero también sabiendo que tenía todo el poder y la autoridad de Dios, decidió que era oportuno dirigirse oficialmente a sus discípulos por última vez. Quería dejarles claro lo que para Él era lo más importante. En ese momento Jesús podría haber elegido hacer cualquier otra cosa, pero lo que decidió hacer, lo que escogió como la lección más importante, fue humillarse una vez más.

En la descripción del apóstol Juan de ese día, Juan nos cuenta como Jesús se quitó el manto, recogió una toalla, echó agua en un recipiente y comenzó a lavarle los pies a los discípulos, consciente de que todos lo abandonarían en el momento más difícil de su vida. Sabiendo que Pedro lo negaría y que Judas lo traicionaría. En ese momento Jesús voluntariamente se rebajó de ser la persona más importante y poderosa en la habitación a la posición más baja, la de un siervo.

Una vez que Jesús le lavó los pies a los doce discípulos, se levantó, puso a un lado la toalla, se volvió a colocar el manto y luego les hizo la siguiente pregunta:

LECTURA BIBLICA:

“¿Entienden lo que he hecho con ustedes?  Ustedes me llaman Maestro y Señor, y dicen bien, porque lo soy.  Pues, si yo, el Señor y el Maestro, les he lavado los pies, también ustedes deben lavarse los pies los unos a los otros. Les he puesto el ejemplo, para que hagan lo mismo que yo he hecho con ustedes. Ciertamente les aseguro que ningún siervo es más que su amo, y ningún mensajero es más que el que lo envió. ¿Entienden esto? Dichosos serán si lo ponen en práctica.” - Juan 13: 12-17.

PIÉNSALO:

La clave para vivir una vida completamente dichosa es servirnos voluntariamente los unos a los otros, algunas personas están llamadas a liderar y participar en grandes ministerios que alimentan a los pobres o sanan a los enfermos; esta es una vocación increíble y digna de gran admiración. Y aunque no todos tienen ese llamado, sí  todos hemos sido llamados a servirnos los unos a los otros. Imagínate no solo cumplir con los deberes y responsabilidades del trabajo o el hogar, imagínate a las personas buscando oportunidades para servirse “los unos a los otros” en el hogar, el trabajo, la escuela, el vecindario y la iglesia local. Lo interesante es que Jesús dice que la persona que sirve es la que será dichosa, no la que está siendo servida. Entonces, ¿por qué no comenzar a servir hoy mismo?

ORA:

Que poderoso y maravilloso ejemplo me dejaste amado Jesús, Tú siendo Dios no perdiste una sola oportunidad en esta tierra para servir a los demás, yo quiero imitarte cada vez más Señor, gracias por la oportunidad que me das de servir a otros en mi casa, mi trabajo, mi escuela, mi iglesia, mi vecindario y en cualquier lugar que vaya, porque es un privilegio servir a los demás  y es la única manera en que de verdad voy a ser completamente dichoso en esta vida.
