The Wisdom of Humility | Day 07

Why are some people successful and others not? Why do some work hard and get rewarded and others work just as hard and gain little or nothing? In business, why is Apple so successful and other technology companies aren’t? Or, why is Starbucks coffee such a successful company and so many others fail? The answer is that they made their clients the focus of their business, they did not make themselves or the bottom line the focus of their business. Apple pre-decided that the design and operation of their computers would not be based on the industry standards but rather on creating a computer that was simple and easy for anyone to use. Starbucks prioritized creating an environment in which people can gather and or get some work done as more important than the product itself.

BIBLE READING:

Imagine for a moment that you are going start a business, family or any endeavor of importance to you, would you want it to be a failed, good, or a great venture? If like me your answer is, I want it to be great. Then you’ll need more than knowledge and hard work, you’ll also need to have wisdom. Knowledge and commitment are necessary but without wisdom the best you can hope for is a good venture because great ventures require wisdom. The problem is that intelligence does not equal wisdom because wisdom is the ability to utilize knowledge intelligently. It’s the intelligent leaders that authorize war and it takes a large degree of knowledge to create weapons of mass destruction. Again, very intelligent people but not very wise decisions. Maybe that’s the reason why Jim Collins author of the best-selling book titled “From Good to Great” wrote, “the difference between good leaders and great ones is humility”. 

THINK ABOUT IT: 

When it comes to success your Heavenly Father doesn’t only want you to be or do good he wants you to be or do great. But to achieve great success you’re going to need more than knowledge and a commitment to hard work, you’re going to need wisdom. And nothing can cloud a persons’ intelligence more than arrogance, maybe that is why wisdom is found in the actions that come from humility, the actions that consider others above self.    

PRAY

Dear God, I need wisdom. You have bestowed upon me a degree of intelligence, but I need your wisdom to use it the right way. I need your wisdom and I need you to put in me a new heart, one that is not arrogant; I need a heart that is humble. I present to you the work of my hands, my plans, my endeavors, and my calling, I pray that you would bless it all but above all else, that in me you would find a humble heart. Cause me to be the kind of leader that can influence others and lead them to Jesus and a personal relationship with him. Thank you Heavenly Father for hearing my prayer, in Jesus’ name I pray, amen. 

El Valor de la Humildad | Día 06

Algunas personas son ricas pero no tienen honor. Otros son honorables pero tienen poca o ninguna riqueza. Mientras que otros tienen honor y riquezas, pero no se sienten vivos. Personas diferentes con perspectivas diferentes viviendo sus vidas, algunas trabajando arduamente para crear riqueza. Otros sacrificándose para vivir vidas honorables. Pero a pesar de sus diferencias, el común denominador es la sensación de que tiene que haber algo más en la vida. Qué triste, trabajar tan duro y llegar al final del camino preguntándose, ¿realmente valió la pena tanto trabajo y sacrificios? Al final, ¿mi vida realmente significará algo?

La humildad es el temor del Señor; su salario es riqueza, honor y vida. Proverbios 22: 4 NIV.

No importa cuán rica pueda volverse una persona, no importa cuántos honores pueda recibir y no importa cuánto pueda experimentar en esta vida, sin humildad la vida es un callejón sin salida. Ahora bien, la humildad no es tenerle miedo a Dios, es temer a Dios, es vivir cada momento de nuestras vidas reconociendo que Dios nos creó a propósito y para su propósito. El vivir la vida para cualquier otro propósito sería arrogancia. Imagina que el lienzo le diga al pintor qué pintar o que el avión le indique al piloto a dónde volar. Si nos detenemos un momento y analizamos nuestras vidas, descubriremos que muchas veces nosotros los creados queremos decirle al Creador qué hacer. Solo hay que escuchar nuestras peticiones de oración, en gran parte son nuestra forma religiosa de ordenarle a Dios que haga lo que nosotros queremos que haga. Lamentablemente, eso es arrogancia. Ahora bien, Jesús enseñó que podemos pedirle cualquier cosa a Dios, ya sea grande o pequeña, pero a menudo nos volvemos arrogantes y olvidamos el contexto apropiado. El contexto apropiado de cada una de nuestras peticione es comenzar diciendo: "Hágase tu voluntad". Puedes pedirle cualquier cosa a Dios, y si vas a pedir, pide en grande, porque nada es demasiado grande para nuestro Dios. Te dejo con un secreto, si vienes humildemente ante Dios buscando cumplir Sus propósitos, Él automáticamente te bendecirá con riquezas, honor y vida. Y te apuesto a que te dará mucho más de lo que pensabas pedir.

PIÉNSALO:

Cuando no estamos en la búsqueda de nuestro propósito ordenado por Dios, nos rendimos o vivimos sin valor y, en el mejor de los casos, podemos terminar cumpliendo un propósito secundario que nunca nos conducirá a la verdadera riqueza, honor y vida. Pero cuando vivimos nuestras vidas humildemente, el resultado es que la paga de Dios son las verdaderas riquezas, honor y una vida eterna y abundante. Ese es el valor de la humildad.

ORA:

Padre celestial quiero vivir a través del propósito por el cual me creaste, ayúdame a vivir de manera humilde para que realmente puedas conducirme a la verdadera riqueza, honor y vida; hágase tu voluntad y no la mía amado Dios.

The Value of Humility | Day 06

Some people are rich, but don’t have honor.  Others have honor, yet little wealth. Some have honor and riches, yet sense something missing. Some are working hard to build wealth, and others are sacrificing to live honorable lives. Different people approaching life from different perspectives. Yet, despite their differences, a common denominator exists —  a sobering sense there has to be something more to life.

How sad to work so hard and sacrifice so much to reach a goal, then wonder if all the striving was worth it. At the end of it all, will my life really mean something?

No matter how much wealth we accumulate, no matter how many honors we receive, and no matter how much of life we experience, without humility life takes us down a dead-end road. 

Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life. – Proverbs 22:4 NIV

One of Proverbs most prominent themes is humility. To understand humility, we need to see its connection with the fear of the Lord. 

As we humble ourselves before God, we stand in awe of him recognizing He created us on purpose and for his purpose. Living for any other purpose would be arrogance. 

Imagine the canvas telling the painter what to paint. Often, we the created want to tell the Creator what to do. To gauge this, take a moment to think over your prayer petitions. Are they a religious way of commanding God to do what we want him too? If so, that is arrogance. 

Christ teaches us to ask God for anything whether big or small. Too often, in arrogance, we make prayers all about what we want to see Him accomplish for us.  

God invites you not to worry about anything, but to pray about everything (Philippians 4:6). So, when you ask of God you might as well ask big. I mean really big because nothing is impossible for God. Nevertheless, make sure to always tell Him “Your will be done.”

Let me lead you in a powerful prayer secret. As you humble yourself before God, seeking to fulfill his purposes, He will automatically bless you with riches, honor and life. 

THINK ABOUT IT:

When we pursue anything other than our God-ordained purpose, we render our lives worthless. At best, we may end up fulfilling a secondary purpose. However, as we live humble lives, God’s wages are true riches, honor, and abundant life. That’s the high value of humility. 

PRAY:

Dear God, I come before you, humbly and thankful to You for your saving grace on my life. Thank you for loving me in such an extravagant way. I want to honor You by fulfilling Your purpose for my life and making it my primary goal in life. 

I know there is nothing too big for you. So, today I present to you my needs. [Present your pressing needs no matter how small or big]

Yet, Lord, I pray for Your will to be done in my life. I want to fulfill Your purpose in me so You may receive all the glory. And as you bless me with riches, honor, and life, I will give them back to You to use for your glory and honor. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. 

The Power of Humility | Day 05

I’m sure that if you’ve ever tried to get ahead in life you’ve already discovered that it’s not that easy. There’s always someone or something opposing you. It kind of reminds me of sumo wrestling. I’m no fan of wrestling but I must admit that sumo wrestling intrigues me. To see a couple of three hundred plus pound men, dressed in what looks like diapers, opposing each other is quite the scene. Now imagine that you had one of these sumo wrestlers as your opponent. At times that’s the way it feels when we’re trying to get ahead.

“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:5-6 NIV 

Many times, the reason we don’t get ahead is because we have God as our opponent, a concept that is rarely communicated today. Now imagine God forcefully pushing against you. The truth is that you’d have a better chance of beating a sumo wrestler than you’d ever have of moving God out of the way. Now why would God want to stop you from getting ahead? Simple, God opposes the proud. The problem is that we don’t think that we’re proud. But in God’s definition of proud, we’re all quite proud, actually at times arrogantly proud. 

If you want to know if you’re proud, just look at your prayer petitions. More than likely the vast majority of your prayers are about you. To which some will say, I also pray for my spouse, my children and my church without ever noticing that the first word that presents their petitions is, “my”. In other words, even when you’re praying for others it’s mostly about you. Now there’s absolutely nothing wrong with asking God to personally bless you. The problem is not the petition the problem is the attitude.  

Let’s talk about humility, humility begins when you show at least the same amount of concern for others as you have for yourself. It’s when you pray for God to bless others as much as you want Him to bless you. Humility matures when you pray for God to bless every area of your life as a way to use those blessings to bless the lives of others. When we pray with a humble attitude God not only answers our petitions, he shows us favor. And, having God’s favor means that he will give you more than what you think of or ask for. Actually, he will give you what you could never earn or deserve. 

Think About It:

If you really want to get ahead in life and if you really want God to answer your petitions, then humble yourself before God. Which simply put means to put God’s agenda in front of your own agenda. God’s agenda is that you would value others at least as much as you value yourself. If you choose to do so, in due time God will lift you up. That’s the power of humility. 

PRAY

Dear God:

You first! What is it that you would have me do? I pray for blessings, yes in every area of my life. But more importantly, I want you to bless me so that I can bless others. I know that your word teaches me to seek your kingdom first and all things, those I need and don’t even know that I need, will be added. So today I pray that you teach me to value your kingdom agenda more than I value my own personal plans. I trust that as I carry out your will, you will take care of the rest. Who is it that you need me to bless, to help, to comfort, to minister to? I don’t deny that I wish to be successful in life, but being successful in my calling is paramount. Teach me humility, teach me to love the way you love, and help me to care the way you care. Thank you Lord for your goodness, your mercy and your grace. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

El Poder de la Humildad | Día 05

Estoy seguro de que si alguna vez has intentado salir adelante en la vida, ya has descubierto que no es tan fácil. Siempre hay alguien o algo que se opone a ti. Me recuerda a los luchadores de sumo, no soy fanático de la lucha, pero debo admitir que la lucha de sumo me intriga. Ver a un par de hombres de más de trescientas libras, vestidos con lo que parecen pañales y luchando, es algo fascinante. Ahora imagínate que tuvieses a uno de estos luchadores de sumo como tu oponente. Bueno, a veces así es como se siente cuando estamos tratando de salir adelante.

“Dios se opone a los orgullosos, pero da gracia a los humildes. Humíllense, pues, bajo la poderosa mano de Dios, para que Él los exalte a su debido tiempo.” 1 Pedro 5: 5-6 NIV.

Muchas veces, la razón por la que no avanzamos es porque tenemos a Dios como oponente, un concepto que rara vez se comunica hoy en día. Imagínate que el Dios Todopoderoso estuviese empujando en contra tuya. La verdad es que tendrías una mejor oportunidad de vencer a un luchador de sumo que la que tendrías de mover a Dios. Ahora, ¿por qué Dios querría impedirte salir adelante? Simple, Dios se opone a los orgullosos. El problema es que no pensamos que somos orgullosos. Pero dentro de la definición de Dios de lo que es ser orgulloso, todos somos bastantes orgullosos, de hecho a veces arrogantes.

Si quieres saber si eres una persona orgullosa, solo fíjate en tus peticiones de oración. Lo más probable es que la gran mayoría de tus oraciones se traten de ti. A lo que algunos dirán, también oro por mi pareja, mis hijos y mi iglesia sin darte cuenta de que la primera palabra que presentan tus peticiones es "mi". En otras palabras, aun cuando estás orando por otros, la verdad es que trata principalmente de ti. Ahora no hay absolutamente nada de malo en pedirle a Dios que te bendiga personalmente. El problema no son las peticiones, el problema es la actitud.

Hablemos de la humildad; la humildad comienza cuando muestras al menos la misma preocupación por los demás que tienes por ti mismo. Es cuando oras para que Dios bendiga a los demás tanto como quieres que te bendiga a ti. Y la humildad madura es cuando oras para que Dios bendiga cada área de tu vida con la finalidad de utilizar esas bendiciones para bendecir las vidas de los demás. Cuando oramos con una actitud humilde, Dios no solo contesta nuestras oraciones, sino que también nos muestra su favor. Y tener el favor de Dios significa que Él te dará más de lo que puedas pensar o pedir. De hecho, significa que Él te dará lo que nunca podrías ganar o merecerte.

PIÉNSALO:

Si realmente quieres avanzar en la vida y si realmente quieres que Dios responda a tus peticiones, entonces humíllate ante Dios. Que simplemente significa poner la agenda de Dios antes de tu agenda y la agenda de Dios es que vas a valorar a los demás al menos tanto como a ti mismo. Si eliges hacerlo, a su debido tiempo Dios te exaltará. Ese es el poder de la humildad.

ORA:

Padre celestial como seguidor tuyo entiendo la importancia de la humildad porque ese es tu carácter, Jesús Tú no estimaste el ser igual a Dios como algo a que aferrarte, sino que te humillaste a ti mismo tomando forma de siervo, y yo deseo con todo mi corazón imitarte, parecerme a Ti, ayúdame a valorar a mi prójimo tanto como me valoro a mí mismo Señor, que yo pueda humillarme delante de ti y poner tu agenda antes que la mía.

Vestido Para El Éxito | Día 04

Hace unos meses, alguien me preguntó si podía ayudarlo a conseguir una entrevista para postularse para un puesto ejecutivo en una empresa millonaria. Como sabía que esta persona estaba altamente calificada y yo tenía una buena relación con la persona a cargo de la contratación, hice la llamada y pude establecer la entrevista. Aproximadamente una semana después, le pregunté a mi amigo si había contratado a la persona que le envié. Me dijo que le había dado el trabajo a una persona menos calificada y le pregunté, ¿por qué? Él me respondió, por la forma en que vino vestido para la entrevista. El que me enviaste, apareció vestido con pantalones cortos y una camiseta y es cierto que está altamente calificado, el problema es que solo quiere un trabajo, yo estoy buscando contratar a una persona que busque alcanzar el éxito, inclusive si está menos calificada.

LECTURA BIBLICA:

“Revístanse todos de humildad en su trato mutuo, porque Dios se opone a los orgullosos, pero da gracia a los humildes” 1 Pedro 5: 5 NVI.

La verdad es que la forma en que nos vestimos es importante, es una ventana a nuestra alma y refleja nuestros diferentes estados de ánimo y personalidad. Como seguidores de Jesús, el apóstol Pablo nos ordena que nos vistamos apropiadamente. Lo curioso es que no estaba hablando de nuestras vestimentas exteriores, estaba hablando de quiénes somos por dentro. La verdad es que, algunos seguidores de Jesús usan traje y corbata, pero cuando los conoces dejan mucho que desear. Otros se visten de manera moderna, utilizando marcas de diseñadores famosos y aunque obtengan una alta puntuación en la escala de estilo, nuevamente, después de conocerlos, dejan mucho que desear.

Como cristianos, una de las vestimentas que siempre debemos tener puesta es la humildad. Una persona vestida de humildad es la que valora a los demás y considera las necesidades e intereses de los demás incluso por encima de los suyos. Es la persona que se despierta todas las mañanas y se pregunta, ¿cómo puedo ayudar o bendecir a las personas con que interactúe hoy? Eso es más poderoso que cualquier traje y corbata y más poderoso que cualquier diseñador de nombre. Esto se debe a que Dios se opone a los orgullosos, a los que piensan en sí mismos, pero muestra favor a los humildes, a los que consideran y valoran las necesidades de los demás.

PIÉNSALO:

Lo que esté sucediendo en el interior de una persona se va a reflejar en el exterior, en la manera en que se expresa, actúa e incluso en su forma de vestir. Si quieres vestirte para obtener el éxito; disfrutar de la gracia de Dios y de sus bendiciones, entonces no olvides vestirte de humildad. 

ORA:

Padre celestial ayúdame a comenzar mi día preguntándome cómo puedo ayudar y bendecir a las personas con las que voy a interactuar ese día, que mi actitud sea en todo momento de servir a otros y considerar las necesidades de ellos por encima de las mías, porque Tú Señor te opones a los orgullosos, pero le das gracia a los humildes. Gracias por mostrarme la importante de vestirme de humildad.

Dress For Success | Day 04

Several months ago, an acquaintance of mine who was interested in an executive position at a major corporation asked me if I could help him get an interview. Knowing that this person was highly qualified, and since I was a good friend of the person responsible for hiring at this corporation, I made the call and was able to arrange an interview. About a week later I asked my friend at the company how the interview went. He told me that they gave the position to a less qualified applicant. I asked him, why? He told me that they declined to make an offer because of the way my friend dressed for the interview. Your friend, he said, showed up in shorts and a t-shirt. While it is true that he is highly qualified, he’s just looking for a job. I’m looking to hire a person even if less qualified, who is looking to achieve success. 

BIBLE READING:

“All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” -  1 Peter 5:5 NIV

The truth is that the way we dress matters, it is a window into our soul and it reflects our different moods and personality. The Apostle Paul actually commands us as followers of Jesus to dress appropriately. The funny thing is that he was not talking about our exterior garments; he was talking about who we are on the inside. You see, some followers of Jesus wear the suit and tie but when you get to know them they leave a lot to be desired. Others want to dress hip and look contemporary, they may score highly on the coolness scale but again, once you meet them, they leave a lot to be desired. 

One of the garments that Christians should always wear is humility. A person dressed with humility is the one who values others and considers the needs and interests of others, even above their own. A person dressed with humility wakes up every morning and asks themselves, how can I help or bless the people I will encounter today? That is more powerful than any suit and tie, and more powerful than a pair of skinny jeans. That is because God opposes the proud, those who only think about themselves, but he shows favor to the humble, to those who consider and value the needs of others.  

THINK ABOUT IT:

What is happening on the inside will reflect on the outside in the way you act and even in the way you dress. So, if you want to attain God’s grace and live a successful life this new year, clothe yourself with humility. 

PRAY:

Dear God, thank you for another day. Thank you for your word and your wisdom. Heavenly Father, I want to be more like Jesus. Put in me the burden for others. Teach me to value what you value. I pray that you would help me to diminish and allow Jesus to grow bigger in me. I don’t want you to oppose me. I don’t want to look the part on the outside but fail miserably on the inside. I want to be the person you called me to be on the inside so that your glory and your light will be visible on the outside. I confess that humility is not easy, but with your help, your word, and your guidance, I know that I can clothe myself with the garment of humility and become a useful tool in your kingdom. Today I ask you to show me how I can bless others and how I can be a ray of hope in their lives. Today I ask you to remove those ego driven things in my heart and replace them with those things that you care about. Thank you Lord for this immense opportunity to serve you and to serve others. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Vístete Humildemente con Orgullo | Día 03

En los deportes, cuando un atleta es escogido para formar parte del equipo, generalmente lo primero que hace es ponerse la gorra o la camiseta del equipo. Cuando un artista es escogido para recibir un premio, inmediatamente comienza a seleccionar la ropa que usará. Cuando un estudiante se gradúa y va a su primera entrevista de trabajo corporativa, si tiene la suerte de ser escogido una de las primeras cosas que hace es actualizar su ropa de acuerdo a la profesión. Y en todos estos casos, las personas se vestirán humildemente con orgullo. Humildemente porque fueron escogidos para formar parte de algo más grande que ellos mismos y con orgullo porque representarán algo más grande que ellos mismos.

LECTURA BIBLICA:

Por lo tanto, como escogidos de Dios, santos y amados, revístanse de afecto entrañable y de bondad, humildad, amabilidad y paciencia. Colosenses 3:12 NVI.

Como seguidores de Jesús, nada debería darnos más orgullo que haber sido escogidos por Dios y, al mismo tiempo, nada debería hacernos sentir más humildes que haber sido elegidos por Dios. ¿Pero escogidos para qué? Escogidos para ser amado por Dios, para ser parte de la familia de Dios y para representar su Reino en este mundo. Que de la misma manera que los equipos y las corporaciones tienen sus uniformes y colores, todos los que hemos sido elegidos por Dios debemos vestirnos con nuestra nueva camiseta y colores. Y nuestra vestimenta mas importante no son los zapatos o el traje. La vestimenta principal más importante para los que hemos sido escogidos por Dios es la humildad y debemos vestirla con orgullo.

PIÉNSALO:

Cuando un policía, bombero o soldado se pone su uniforme están representando algo más grande que ellos mismos. Representan a su familia, su comunidad y su nación y deben utilizar su uniforme con humildad y orgullo. Porque, como personas escogidas por Dios, representamos algo más grande que nuestras familias, comunidades y naciones terrenales. Estamos representando al Dios todopoderoso por lo tanto debemos siempre estar vestidos de humildad, no solo en la iglesia sino en la escuela, en el trabajo y donde sea que estemos. 

ORA:

Amado Jesús como seguidor tuyo nada me da más orgullo que haber sido escogido por Ti y al mismo tiempo nada me hace sentir más humilde que haber sido escogido por Ti para recibir tu gran amor, ser parte de tu familia y representar tu Reino en este mundo. Ayúdame a cada día de mi vida revestirme de bondad, humildad, amabilidad y paciencia, pero sobretodo Señor, que adonde yo vaya te represente a ti vestido de humildad y orgulloso de poder representarte.

Wear It Humbly, With Pride | Day 3

In sports, when an athlete is chosen to join a team, typically the first thing they will do is to put on the team’s cap or jersey. When an artist is chosen to receive an award they immediately begin thinking about the clothes they will wear. When a student graduates and goes to their first corporate job interview, if they’re fortunate enough to get the job, one of the first things they will do is to update their wardrobe. In all of these cases the persons will humbly wear their outfits with pride. Humbly because they were chosen to be part of something bigger than themselves and with pride because they get to represent something bigger than themselves. 

BIBLE READING:

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. – Colossians 3:12 NIV

As followers of Jesus nothing should give us more pride than to have God choose us. At the same time nothing should makes us feel more humble than to be chosen by God. But chosen for what? Chosen to be loved by God, to become part of the family of God, and to represent his kingdom in this world. Just as teams and corporations have their uniforms and colors, all of us who are chosen by God should clothe ourselves with our new team’s jersey and colors. However, the main article of clothing we should wear is not a pair of shoes, a dress or a suit. The main article of clothing for those of us chosen by God is humility and we should wear it with pride. 

THINK ABOUT IT:

When a policeman, fireman, or soldier puts on their uniform they are representing something greater than themselves. They are representing their family, community, and their nation and they should wear their uniform both humbly and with pride. As God’s chosen people we get to represent something far bigger than our earthly families, communities, and nations; we get to represent Almighty God. Therefore we should wear humility everywhere we go, not only at church, but also at school, at work and wherever we are irrespective of what we are doing. We should wear humility humbly and with pride. 

PRAY:

Heavenly Father, I humbly come before your throne with thanksgiving and praise. I am humbled that you would consider me, that you would choose me to become part of your family. Father, I am humbled because I recognize that I do not deserve such love, that I do not deserve the honor to sit at the side of Jesus and call him brother, Savior, and Lord. Yet it is with great pride that I can call myself a child of the most high God and coheir with Jesus. I pray that you would continue to grant me the privilege and the honor of wearing my salvation humbly and with pride wherever I go. I pray that people everywhere would see Jesus in me. I pray that my actions, words, plans, even the clothes I wear would be a witness, a humble yet very proud witness of your unfailing love for us. I thank you for the example we have in Jesus and I thank you because you loved us enough to send him to ransom us. It is in his precious name that I say with pride as I humbly pray, amen. 

El mejor año de tu vida | Día 02

El comienzo del año es el tiempo de hacer resoluciones, un tiempo para contemplar nuestras vidas y establecer metas para crear un futuro mejor. Un futuro mejor físicamente, financieramente, relacionalmente, espiritualmente y todo tipo de “mentes”. Pero si quieres experimentar un año extraordinario, el mejor año de tu vida el simplemente mejorar no va ser suficiente, tendrás que añadirle a las mejoras un poco de humildad. Porque más humildad siempre produce algo extraordinario. Pero, ¿qué es la humildad? La humildad, es decir, la humildad bíblica, es   Fue a través de la humildad que un hombre tartamudo llamado Moisés liberó al pueblo de Israel de la esclavitud. Fue a través de la humildad que un joven llamado David derrotó a Goliat. Fue a través de la humildad que los apóstoles que un día abandonaron a Jesús luego difundieron el evangelio más allá de Palestina y desde el siglo primero hasta el siglo presente. Y, fue a través de la humildad de Cristo que Dios ofrece la salvación al mundo entero. No fueron solo sus talentos y recursos los que les permitieron vivir vidas extraordinarias, fueron sus talentos y recursos combinados con un propósito mayor que ellos mismos lo que les hizo vivir vidas extraordinarias.

LECTURA: 2 Crónicas 7:14-15 NIV.

 “Si mi pueblo, que lleva mi nombre, se humilla y ora, y me busca y abandona su mala conducta, yo lo escucharé desde el cielo, perdonaré su pecado y restauraré su tierra.  Mantendré abiertos mis ojos, y atentos mis oídos a las oraciones que se eleven en este lugar.”

Después de que el rey Salomón había terminado la construcción de un templo para honrar a Dios (un propósito mayor que él mismo) y después de que dedicó el templo a Dios, una noche Dios se le apareció y le dijo:  “ Si mi pueblo, que lleva mi nombre, se humilla y ora... ”En otras palabras, si quieres que Dios escuche tus oraciones en este nuevo año necesitas entender que Él busca y escucha las oraciones de aquellos que oran por un propósito mayor que ellos mismos. Así que, si deseas experimentar el mejor año de tu vida, comprométete a cumplir tus resoluciones. Pero más importante aun, humíllate y orar, no solo por ti mismo, orar también por los demás y nuevamente, orar por un propósito que sea mayor que tu. Y en mi opinión, no hay otro propósito mayor que el propósito de Dios, de que ninguna persona se pierda, sino que todos procedan al arrepentimiento para el perdón de los pecados y la restauración de su tierra.

PIÉNSALO:

Las personas que más nos inspiran son aquellas que han vivido vidas extraordinarias. Y apuesto a que si lo piensas, descubrirás que es porque vivieron para un propósito mayor que ellos mismos. Y la forma de hacer de este el mejor año de tu vida es dedicarte a un propósito mayor que tú mismo.

¿Cuál es el propósito detrás de tus resoluciones de este nuevo año? ¿Es para un propósito mayor que tú? Y si es así, ¿cuál es su propósito? En el comienzo de este nuevo año humillémonos ante Dios mientras que ayunamos y oramos. Garantizado que Dios escuchará esas oraciones.

Padre celestial gracias por mostrarme que mis talentos y recursos debo combinarlos con un propósito mayor que yo mismo para que pueda disfrutar de esa vida extraordinaria que planeaste para mí, en este nuevo año mi mayor resolución es humillarme delante de Ti y orar para que ninguna persona se pierda, sino que todos procedan al arrepentimiento para que Tú los perdones y restaures como lo hiciste conmigo.

The Best Year Ever | Day 02

The start of the year is a time for resolutions, it is the time when we pause to contemplate our lives and to set goals in order to create a better future. Typically the goal is to create a better future for ourselves by improving physically, financially, relationally, spiritually, an all of the other (fill in the blank) “ally” we can think of. But if you want to experience an extraordinary year, your best year ever, improving will not be enough. You will have to add to your improvements humility. This sounds a bit odd doesn’t it? I say this because “better” combined with “humility” results in “extraordinary”. But, what is humility? Humility, in the Biblical sense is living for a purpose greater than oneself. It was through humility that a stuttering man named Moses liberated the people of Israel from slavery. It was through humility that a young boy named David defeated Goliath. It was through humility that the Apostles, who at one time abandoned Jesus, spread the Gospel beyond Palestine, throughout the first century, and all the way into the 21st century. And, it was through Christ’s humility that God offered salvation to the entire world. Talents and resources alone did not cause these men to live extraordinary lives; it was their talents and resources combined with a purpose greater than themselves that allowed them to live extraordinary lives.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.” 

Once King Solomon had completed the construction of the temple to honor God (a purpose greater than himself), and after dedicating the temple to God, God appeared to Solomon and said, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray …” In other words, if you want God to be attentive to your prayers this year, you need to understand that He is looking to hear the prayers of those who are praying for a purpose greater than themselves. If you want to experience your best year ever, then make a commitment to fulfill your resolutions. But more importantly, you must humble yourself and pray, not just for yourself, pray for others too. Let me reiterate, pray for a purpose that is greater than you.  In my estimation there is no other purpose greater than God’s purpose, and His purpose is that no person should be lost but that all will proceed to repentance for the forgiveness of sins and the healing of their land.

THINK ABOUT IT:

The people who most inspire us are those who’ve lived extraordinary lives. I would venture to say that if you thought about it, you would discover that the reason they lived extraordinary lives was because they lived for a purpose greater than themselves. So, the best way to make this the best year of your life is to dedicate yourself to a purpose greater than you. 

What’s the purpose behind your New Year’s resolutions? Is it for a purpose greater than yourself? And if so, what is your purpose? As we kick off the New Year, I am certain that if we strive to humble ourselves as we fast and pray, God is going to listen to, and answer our prayers.

PRAY:

Heavenly Father, all glory and all honor are yours, now and forever. 

Today, I humbly come into your presence with thanksgiving and gratitude. I am thankful for this New Year, for this new beginning, for this new opportunity to love and to serve you. I have many dreams and aspirations, numerous resolutions, and many desires. But this time I want to surrender them all to you. For so long I have lived a life of personal aspirations, but this time I want to live for a purpose that is greater than I. Today I surrender my plans to you and ask that you would hear my prayer and bless the work of my hands. I pray that everything I do would serve to further your Kingdom and your agenda for mankind. Place in me a burden for others and teach me to serve and to love as Jesus served and loved, not my will but your will. 

Thank you Father for hearing my prayer, thank you for using me for a purpose greater than me, thank you for making this an extraordinary year and for helping me to live an extraordinary life that will have a positive ripple effect long after I am gone.

In the name of your precious son, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I pray, amen. 

Humildad | Día Uno

Uno de los fenómenos más sobre salientes del siglo XXI son los selfies. Los estudios demuestran que cada minuto se suben mas de 60,000 selfies a Instagram y que la persona promedio va a publicar más de 25,000 selfies en su vida. Ahora ten en cuenta que el promedio de vida de una persona es de aproximadamente 27,000 días, eso significa que van a publicar aproximadamente un selfie por día durante toda su vida.

Este fenómeno de los selfies refleja una cultura que piensa que lo más importante en la vida es “ser uno mismo, creer en uno mismo y confiar en tu corazón”. Y, hasta cierto punto, estoy de acuerdo, después de todo, cada uno de nosotros somos únicos; Dios nunca ha creado a dos personas iguales. Pero, ¿qué sucede cuando la obsesión con ser uno mismo se convierte en el objetivo final? El resultado es una generación de personas cuyas decisiones morales se basan en cómo se sienten, adictos a la fama, que piensan que se lo merecen todo y que se sienten obligados a exagerar sus realidades. Pero la verdadera tragedia con la generación de selfies es que cuanto más permiten que sus vidas se conviertan en el centro de su existencia, mas infelices e insatisfechos se vuelven.

LECTURA: Filipenses 2: 2-11. 

No hagan nada por egoísmo o vanidad; más bien, con humildad consideren a los demás como superiores a ustedes mismos. Cada uno debe velar no solo por sus propios intereses, sino también por los intereses de los demás. Filipenses 2: 3-4 NIV.

Por eso Dios lo exaltó hasta lo sumo y le otorgó el nombre que está sobre todo nombre.

Filipenses 2: 9 NVI.

Lo fascinante es que a través de la Biblia descubrimos que Dios quiere que seamos la mejor versión de nosotros mismos que podamos ser, pero no solo para obtener un beneficio personal sino también por el bien de los demás. El problema es que la mejor versión de nosotros mismos requiere humildad porque sin humildad lo que queda son personas arrogantes y egocéntricas.

Según la Madre Teresa, la humildad es la madre de todas las virtudes, pero es muy contradictoria a la idea de las virtudes de la generación actual. El problema es que la mayoría de las personas malinterpretan lo que es humildad, la ven como una debilidad, que se le atribuye a las personas que no son importantes, que son pobres financieramente hablando, o que tienen una baja autoestima. Pero cuando se trata de la humildad bíblica, nada puede estar más lejos de ese concepto. Nadie exhibió más humildad que Jesús, sin embargo, fue la persona más grandiosa, más dotada, poderosa, rica y famosa que jamás haya caminado sobre la tierra. Pero lo interesante de Jesús es que su grandeza y fama no impedían que se manifestase la humildad a través de su vida, sino mas bien esto fue el vehículo a través del cual dispensó la humildad. Porque la humildad bíblica es usar quién tú eres y todo lo que tienes por causa de los intereses de los demás. Como CS Lewis dijo una vez: “La verdadera humildad no es pensar menos de ti mismo, es pensar menos en ti mismo” 

PIÉNSALO:

La humildad es “ser uno mismo” y al mismo tiempo valorar a los demás por encima de uno mismo. Y, si Jesús siendo Dios se humilló a sí mismo para servir a los demás, creo que también nosotros deberíamos de escoger ser humildes y servir a los demás.

Amado Jesús que maravilloso ejemplo de humildad me dejaste para que yo te imite y es lo que quiero hacer en este nuevo año que me permites vivir, ayúdame a pensar menos en mí y a considerar a los demás como más importantes que yo, ayúdame a servirte a través de las personas que has puesto en mi vida para acercarlos a Ti teniendo la misma actitud humilde que tuviste Tú.
